Christmas Wrap!
Club President Billy 'the legend' Clayton brought a 'smile' to the faces of all at the Christmas Social, and a rapturous round of applause, with his rendition of the War Time favorite 'Smile'. The clip opposite is Nat King Cole's version! In typical presidential style Billy also made a short speech, thanking the organizers for another great social occasion, noting the progress of the Club during 2018 and wishing all gathered the very best for a peaceful and happy Christmas.
Club shows its social face
The whole evening, on Friday 14th December, was expertly organized by the Club's very own, appropriately festooned, Christmas crackers, Keith Hardman and Bernard Cooney. The evening included, Play Your Cards Right, Bottle top Bingo, karaoke, a giant raffle and the prize square draw. And of course, there were nibbles, the bar was open, and music provided by resident DJ and entertainer Sue Young.
Prizes and Profit!
There were cash prizes too! You should have seen the look of amazement on the face of the Club Secretary's wife when she realized that she had won 1st prize of £50 on the Prize Square Draw! A sum she was more than happy to donate to the local charity 'The Walton Centre Charity', which supports the wonderful work of The Walton Centre in Liverpool - a specialist neuroscience hospital treating over 100,000 patients a year with conditions including head and spinal trauma injuries; tumours of the nervous system; epilepsy; multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.
There were also cash prizes for the game show and bottle top bingo, so it seems some went home with a profit! But the evening also raised a tremendous profit of over £400 for the Club's building project which is very gradually moving forward, with the aim of coming to completion with a new club home in the summer of 2019.
Highlights!
As always, the karaoke was one of the highlights of the evening. It's great just how many will get up and participate. If only our Social Secretary could find a new party piece! But his rendition of 'Delilah' never fails in bringing the house down!
All in all it was an excellent evening of fun and entertainment with very pleasant company. Below you can find a few more pictures, courtesy of our very own photographer, Herve Gillet. All pictures used by permission.
From One Party to Another
No sooner was one social occasion over, the club held another! This time it was the Christmas Dinner at 'This is Livin' restaurant in Crosby on Wednesday lunchtime. Great food, excellent surroundings and very enjoyable company. All those who went had a great time. The short clip below, provided by Master of ceremonies, Bernard Cooney, can tell its own story. there are more pictures on our Facebook page.
Happy Christmas everyone!
