New Season, New shirts!
My, didn't they look smart in their new Club T shirts! The start of the Liverpool & District Table Tennis League 2016/17 season this week saw all of the Club's teams turning out in the new club strip. A very impressive sight. One team, on a visit to Merseyside Police, found the home team also had new club shirts, and strangely enough they were also in black and red! We shall have to have an 'away' strip too!
Seven teams were in action this week, and you might say it was just about honours even. Three wins, three defeats and one draw! All the teams results can be found on the Club website.
The Club's top two teams both got off to winning starts. Sam Pierce making his full debut in the 1st Team in Division 1 pleasingly won 2 singles. The newly promoted E Team, see picture below, also got off to a winning start in Division 4 with the 8:2 scoreline perhaps slightly flattering the visitors against a very useful Merseyside Police side.
The F and G teams in Division 5 featured new players to the league scene. With Tony Bramham making his debut for the F side, in 'friends reunited' with his old school mate Tommy Bell, see picture below. But neither Tom nor Tony were successful in singles on this occasion but both made important contributions to win their doubles. Lesley Blanchard made her league debut for the G Team, and also came very close to her first league victory, just missing out over 5 ends with Billy Clayton in the doubles.
A very good start to the season, with some really enjoyable hard fought matches. Do share news of how your match went.....??
